In February IMP (booth 813)announced that it signed a significant sub-contract with General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada (GDMS-C) to design and implement a Block I Avionics Update for the Portuguese Air Force’s five-aircraft P-3C CUP+ fleet. This upgrade will enhance that fleet with significant new capabilities including upgraded Identification Friend or Foe Transponder (IFFT), Link-16 communications, and Data Management System (DMS). The IMP Engineering design effort commenced immediately, with the prototype aircraft currently scheduled for induction in October 2023.

BAE Systems (booth 713) will demonstrate a wide range of defence and security solutions for land, sea and cyberspace at CANSEC 2023. The event, held on 31 May and 1 June 2023 at EY Centre in Ottawa, will also look to the future of BAE Systems’ relationship with Canada, building on more than a century of collaboration.

JRoberts has been awarded a contract from the Department of National Defence (DND) for the repair of its Light Support Vehicle (LSVW) engines and Turbo Chargers. The work will be performed in the North York, Ontario, Canada facility recognized as the Centre of Excellence for the repair of DND Mercedes Benz G-Wagon vehicles.

Senior staff from the International Tactical Training Centre (ITTC), a wholly owned subsidiary of ITPS (Canada) Ltd. (booth 609 at CANSEC), recently returned from a working visit with strategic partners in South Korea, the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).

Marshall (booth 621 at CANSEC) is reinforcing its commitment to developing Canada as its second home market with the announcement of plans to establish an aircraft maintenance facility complementing its existing in-country aerospace engineering business.

Defence Minister Anita Anand released the first biannual status report authored by External Monitor, Jocelyne Therrien. The report provides an external overview of work underway at the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces (DND/CAF) to implement the recommendations made by former Supreme Court Justice Louise Arbour in the Independent External Comprehensive Review (IECR), released in May 2022.

Bombardier Defense and General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada are collaborating to deliver the next-generation Multi-Mission and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) aircraft that will meet the requirements set by the Government of Canada for the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA) program. Both long-standing Canadian-based companies are leveraging their extensive networks to prepare for success in a competitive, open, and transparent procurement process, and are joining forces as Canada’s Multi-Mission Aircraft Team.

Equipment donated included snowshoes, trekking poles, snowmobiles, first aid kits, utility task vehicles, explosive ordnance disposal equipment and solar panels. This equipment will support the LAF and is in addition to the training that the CAF has provided throughout the year, including training in combat first aid, civil-military co-operation, and winter warfare techniques.

From May 1 to 25, 2023, people across the country may see a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CH-148 Cyclone operating in various cities throughout Canada. These activities are related to an operational cross-country transfer of a CH-148 Cyclone from 423 Maritime Helicopter (MH) Squadron, based in Shearwater, Nova Scotia, to 443 MH Squadron, based in Esquimalt, British Columbia.

As the original manufacturer and intellectual property owner of the CH-146 Griffon helicopters, Bell was awarded the contract to extend the life of the 85-helicopter fleet in May 2022 by Public Services and Procurement Canada. As part of the contract, Bell will modify the first nine aircraft. Subsequent aircraft will be modified by the subcontractors who have been rigorously selected through a fair, open and transparent competition.
