Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), on behalf of the Department of National Defence, awarded a $560-million contract to Weir Canada Inc. to manage the Naval Engineering Test Establishment (NETE). The first contract will be for five years, beginning in April 2024, with options to extend for an additional 15 years.

Canada has awarded a $55.5 million contract to Chantier Naval Forillon in Gaspé, Quebec, to build the Canadian Coast Guard’s (CCG) first-ever diesel-electric hybrid vessel with a Battery Energy Storage System, designed to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels. This contract is part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy, and will create and maintain up to 90 highly skilled and well-paying jobs in the region.

This includes boots, thermal layers, and winter sleeping bags. This also includes patterned military uniforms for 2000 female Armed Forces of Ukraine soldiers, which will be manufactured in Canada. This donation is funded by the $500 million tranche in funding for military assistance to Ukraine announced by Prime Minister Trudeau in June 2023.

At the NATO summit in Lithuania, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau along with Canada’ allies agreed to make two per cent of GDP the minimum spend on defence and pledged that 20 per cent of that money would be spent on equipment. Yet here we are less than 3 months later, and the Liberals are looking to cut almost $1 billion from the Department of National Defence’s annual budget. The defence budget is currently about 1.3 per cent of Canada's GDP, so how does the government plan to reach the two per cent while making these cuts?

Effective October 1, 2023, these BMO employees will be eligible for a Military Leave Top-Up as a Military Reservist and Military Family Leave where an employee has a family member who is a Military Reservist.

The Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, participated in the 15th Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) meeting at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. The meeting, hosted by United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, brought together representatives from approximately 50 countries to discuss the provision of military aid to Ukraine. Minister Blair was joined by a Canadian delegation including General Wayne Eyre, Chief of the Defence Staff.

This multi-national exercise taking place off the coast of Nova Scotia will focus on interoperability between Allies and joint elements, and on submarine warfare threats.
