Exercise CUTLASS FURY 2023 Commences

Exercise CUTLASS FURY 2023, which runs between September 10 and 22, began with a unified sailpast and flypast of participants along the waterfront in Halifax, NS.
This multi-national exercise taking place off the coast of Nova Scotia will focus on interoperability between Allies and joint elements, and on submarine warfare threats. This year will also see air-maritime integration between the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force, as well as amphibious landings conducted by the Canadian Army.
Ex CUTLASS FURY participants include the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, Canadian Army, United States Navy, United States Air Force, Royal Air Force (British Air Force), Deutsche Marine (German Navy), and Marine Nationale (French Navy). There are approximately 1400 participating sailors, soldiers, and aviators from the five allied nations, including eight ships and multiple classes and types of aircraft.

• Exercise CUTLASS FURY 2023 (CF23) is a Canadian-led, multi-national, multi-threat warfare exercise that will test Canadian sailors, soldiers, aviators, and our allies’ combative ability to execute anti-submarine warfare and strengthen our air-maritime integration capabilities, showcasing our ability to conduct operations across air, land, and sea.
• This year, along with Canada’s participating ships, land elements and air assets, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France are sending ships and/or air components to ensure synchronization between allied crews and assets.
• Exercise CUTLASS FURY is a bi-annual exercise that provides an opportunity for allied forces to train in a joint maritime environment, with training including air defence, defence against attack from enemy naval vessels, air-to-air combat, defence against submarines, and this year, amphibious landings and closer air-maritime integration.
