The contract with Airbus, valued at approximately $3.6 billion (excluding taxes), is for a fleet of nine aircraft. It includes the acquisition of four new Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport aircraft along with the conversion of five used A330-200 aircraft. These used aircraft were procured through separate procurement processes with significant cost savings and provide best value for Canadians.

Akkodis’ Canadian subsidiary has been awarded a major contract by the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) to deliver professional support services to modernize and transform software systems. The company has received this award as part of a joint venture with two leading industry partners, Thales Canada and KWESST Micro Systems.

The Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) has awarded NP Aerospace Canada the Land Equipment Program - Engineering Technical Support Services Contract (LEP-ETSS) following a competitive tender. The contract will run for up to five years with NP Aerospace Canada as prime contractor, forming a strategic alliance with Marshall Land Systems Canada with the support of specialist suppliers and testing facilities. 

Elbit Systems was awarded a $150 million contract to supply PULS™ (Precise and Universal Launching Systems) rocket launchers and a package of precision-guided long-range rockets to an international customer. The contract will be performed over a period of three years.

At the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Summit, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that the Government of Canada has awarded a $450-million contract to Thales Canada Inc., in a joint venture with Thales Australia Limited, to provide in-service support for the CAF Minor Warships and Auxiliary Vessels (MWAV) fleet for 5 years, with options to extend the contract for up to 19 years. This contract will begin in July 2023.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced additional support for the Alliance and for Ukraine at the NATO Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. At the Summit, NATO Allies committed to strengthening the Alliance's deterrence and defence capabilities and enhancing their assistance to Ukraine. The Prime Minister, along with G7 Leaders, reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to a free, independent, democratic, and sovereign Ukraine, capable of defending itself and deterring future aggression.

$2.8 billion: That’s how much a successful Bombardier/General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada (GDMS-C) bid to build the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA) would deliver to the Canadian Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This assertion is contained in a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) entitled “Economic Impact of a Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft Solution Proposed by Bombardier”, which was commissioned by that company and released on July 10, 2023.

Canada will support, through the Strategic Innovation Fund, General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada's Centre of Excellence for remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), located in Sherbrooke, Quebec. With this $10 million investment, General Dynamics will undertake mission system integration, testing and demonstration on the LX300 helicopter, a disruptive Canadian-made RPAS produced by Quebec-based Laflamme Aero, and is expected to create over 100 well-paying jobs in Sherbrooke. Additionally, on July 7th Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions announced a $2.5 million investment, through the Aerospace Regional Recovery Initiative, for Laflamme Aero to produce the aforementioned LX300, the first Canadian-made RPAS in its class.

Ahead of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Leaders' Summit this week, the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, announced that Canada is committing $2.6 billion in funding starting in 2023-24, to renew and expand Operation REASSURANCE for three years. This operation is Canada's contribution to the biggest reinforcement of the Alliance's collective defence in a generation, and Canada's largest overseas mission, with up to 2200 troops to be persistently deployed, more than double the current deployment.

Aircraft and personnel from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will participate in Exercise Mobility Guardian 23, a United States Air Force Air Mobility Command-led multinational exercise held in the Indo-Pacific Region, from July 5 to 21, 2023.

Seaspan has begun construction on a new Land-Based Test Site (LBTS) at Vancouver Shipyards that will integrate and test vital ship communications, navigation, and other electronic equipment prior to being installed on vessels. Seaspan is the first shipyard in Canada to co-locate this facility within the shipyard and marks another investment in driving efficiency in Seaspan’s shipbuilding capabilities.

Combat Support Ship (CSS) Asterix today arrived in Victoria, British Columbia following a highly successful circumnavigation departing from Halifax, Nova Scotia in January 2023. From supporting international evacuation efforts in Sudan as part of Operation Savanne to conducting a multilateral exercise in the East China Sea, CSS Asterix has once again demonstrated its important and multifunctional role in enabling Canadian, allied and NATO long-range operations.

The Royal Canadian Air Force is currently involved in a search for two missing members of 450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron following the crash of a CH-147F Chinook in the Ottawa River near Garrison Petawawa, Ontario during a training flight in the early morning of Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and our NATO allies are facing a rising, ever more daunting series of underwater challenges from Russia, China, and other hostile nations. This is why effective anti-submarine warfare (ASW) is a top level defence priority that cannot be ignored. This was the gist of the one-day hybrid conference ‘Canadian ASW in the Future Strategic Environment’ staged by the Canadian Global Affairs Institute (CGAI) on June 15, 2023. It was held in person at Ottawa’s Westin Hotel, and online as well.

It was announced during the meeting of NATO Defence Ministers that Canada intends to deploy a Canadian Army Tank Squadron of 15 Leopard 2 tanks to Latvia, along with supporting personnel and equipment. This deployment as part of Operation REASSURANCE is set to take place over the coming months, with the full arrival of the tanks, initial supporting personnel, and equipment expected by Fall 2023. The full complement of approximately 130 personnel should be in place by spring 2024.

Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence, participated in the 13th Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) meeting in Brussels, hosted by United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III. The meeting brought together representatives from approximately 50 countries, who gathered to discuss the provision of military aid to Ukraine.

Babcock Canada (Babcock), a world leader in submarine support, has signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement with Hanwha Ocean to collaborate on the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP). The CPSP was established by the Canadian Department of National Defence to research procurement options for its next generation submarine.

Seaspan Victoria Shipyards officially delivered HMCS Regina back to the Royal Canadian Navy on May 19, 2023, marking the first full Docking Work Period to be completed under the shipyard’s Halifax-Class Work Period (HCWP) contract to maintain and modernize Canada's West Coast-based Halifax-class frigates.
