During a ceremony held in Rota, Spain, the Command of Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) was officially handed over to Spanish Navy Captain Manuel Aguirre Aldereguía on 30 June 2020. The outgoing Commander, Rear Admiral Paolo Fantoni, Italian Navy, held the Command of the Group for a six-month duration from December 2019. The NATO pennant was lowered on board the outgoing flagship, Italian FREMM-class frigate Fasan, and hoisted on the incoming flagship, Spanish AEGIS-class frigate Alvaro de Bazan, on which the new Command will be embarked.

The Standing NATO Maritime Group Two, now at the end of the Italian Command, exercised with two Tunisian Navy units - offshore patrol vessel Syphax and the fast patrol boat Hamilcar. The exercise was conducted in the waters north of Bizerte, Tunisia, with the four vessels performing a communication drill, followed by a manoeuvring series, concluded by the traditional 'sailpast' and a salute between the four vessels.

Canada has taken an important step toward delivering the RCN's future fleet, by awarding a performance-based contract to Seaspan's Vancouver Shipyards for the full construction of two joint support ships (JSS). Valued at $2.4 billion (including taxes), this contract will allow the transition to full-rate construction of the first ship, the construction of early blocks for which began in June 2018, and then the second ship.
