A Canadian Armed Forces member, Captain Eric Cheung, died Saturday under non-operational related circumstances in Baghdad, Iraq. An investigation into the circumstances of this incident is currently underway and no further details will be made available until the investigation has been completed.

CMC Electronics was selected by aviation technology leader Merlin to provide its civil-certified PU-3000 avionics computer to power their autonomous flight solutions. Merlin’s autonomy systems aim to reduce crew in large cargo aircraft, and to eliminate crew entirely in small aircraft, solving a key aviation issue in an industry facing a severe global pilot shortage.

Heddle Shipyards has been awarded a $135.5 million dollar contract for the Vessel Life Extension (VLE) of the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Terry Fox – securing the future of the Port Weller Dry Docks for the next generation of Ontario shipbuilders. The nearly three-year project will involve an extensive engineering, planning and procurement phase, with shipyard work scheduled to begin in December 2023.

As part of a lease agreement, Poland will take delivery of MQ-9A Reaper Remotely Piloted Aircraft from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI). The new agreement between GA-ASI and the Polish Ministry of Defence has a net value of $70.6 million.

Kraken Robotics announces a purchase order from Qikiqtaaluk Corporation (QC) for the AquaPix® synthetic aperture sonar (SAS) which will be integrated to an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) that the Qikiqtaaluk Corporation will use to conduct ghost gear detection operations in the Arctic. Delivery is expected in 2023 and the contract value is more than $600,000.

Saab has signed a four-year contract with the Lithuanian Defence Materiel Agency, which will allow the customer to place orders for RBS 70 missiles until 2026. A first purchase within the new contract has also been placed, with an order value of SEK 350 million. Deliveries will take place 2023-2024.

The Minister of National Defence, Anita Anand, announced that Logistik Unicorp based in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, has been awarded a contract to provide operational clothing and footwear to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). This contract, valued at up to $3.7 billion over 20 years, will support over 3000 jobs in Canada’s clothing, footwear and textile industries.
