Wall of Support for Soldier On Afghanistan Relay
Today, Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence, along with participants in the Soldier On Afghanistan Relay, took part in the official launch of BMO Bank of Montreal’s Walls of Support for the Soldier On Afghanistan Relay, to recognize the service and sacrifice of those who served in Afghanistan. BMO Financial Group also announced a $50 000 contribution to the Support Our Troops Program.
During the week leading up to the National Day of Honour on May 9, 2014, the Soldier On Afghanistan Relay will carry the last Canadian flag to have flown at the International Security Assistance Force Headquarters in Kabul, through communities between Trenton and Ottawa.
BMO’s Walls of Support for the Soldier On Afghanistan Relay will be available in 17 branches along the Soldier On Afghanistan Relay route to encourage Canadians to write messages of appreciation and motivation. Following the National Day of Honour, the messages will be gathered and provided to the Department of National Defence, and further shared with all participants in the relay.
The Soldier On Afghanistan relay team is comprised of 19 Canadians (former and current military members, RCMP, and civilian) who suffered an illness or injury while serving during Canada’s contribution to the Afghanistan mission.
