Canada Commits $9 billion for F-35 Aircraft

The Government of Canada has announced plans to acquire the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II as the country’s next-generation fighter aircraft. The F-35 will replace Canada’s fleet of CF-18 Hornets that entered service in the early 1980s.

GD Canada Awarded Contact on LAV III Upgrade Project

Canada’s LAV III Upgrade project will modernize a portion of the existing LAV III fleet to ensure it remains a highly protected and operationally mobile combat vehicle and the backbone of domestic and expeditionary task forces. The project is now in the definition phase, which will determine the scope of the work required to upgrade the vehicle.

General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada, the original equipment manufacturer, has been awarded a $34 million contract for this definition phase.

CAE signs agreement with New Brunswick

CAE's President and Chief Executive Officer, Marc Parent and New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham, announced they will work together to bring new contracts and jobs to advanced learning and technology companies in New Brunswick. The agreement was signed on June 30, 2010 at the National Research Council of Canada Institute for Information Technology Building in Fredericton.

New Coin Commemorating Canadian Navy Centennial

On June 29th, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada and Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces unveiled a new one-dollar circulation coin immortalizing the centennial of the Canadian Navy.

The Mint will produce seven million of these commemorative circulation coins, which begins circulation on June 29th.  Canadians are encouraged to look for this special coin in their change, or order it online by visiting www.mint.ca/navy.

Lockheed Donates $3.5 Million to Indian Post-Secondary Institution

Lockheed Martin is donating a CA$3.5 million package of training materials to the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies’ Aviation Maintenance and Engineering (AME) faculty. 

Lockheed Martin donated CA$100,000 in May to support the AME program and announced at that time the continued collaboration with faculty administration to develop and implement courseware and instructor's materials for training in more than three-dozen engineering disciplines including systems engineering, quality assurance, logistics and interface engineering management.
