|The Government of Canada announced the grand opening of a new fire hall at 14 Wing Greenwood, which is aimed at minimizing response time and addresses many of the Wing’s training needs.
“I’m proud to announce the completion of this new and modern fire hall at 14 Wing Greenwood,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. “This new facility will give Wing personnel better support infrastructure to help them tackle any emergency more safely and efficiently.”
“The construction of this facility not only benefits Canadian Forces personnel here at 14 Wing, but the local community as well,” said Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament for West Nova. “I am particularly happy that this project helped create approximately 70 new job opportunities over the course of the project
and generated significant economic benefits for our region and the Province of Nova Scotia.”
The new fire hall at 14 Wing Greenwood, which will be adjacent to the airfield, can accommodate the new fleet of larger aircraft and fire fighting vehicles now in use. The new facility includes offices, training rooms, quarters, classrooms, and storage areas for Wing personnel.
A construction contract for this new infrastructure, valued at approximately $6.5 million, was awarded to Marco Maritimes Inc., of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
