As part of Halifax-based Irving Shipbuilding Inc.'s (ISI) participation in Canada's National Shipbuilding Program, a contract to provide inbound logistics services for ship construction and repair projects has been awarded to global logistics company GEODIS. The contract, which will be managed by GEODIS' Project Logistics team in Canada, with support from the company's global network of offices, will cover all inbound shipments to ISI facilities in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to supply three shipbuilding programs: the Canadian Surface Combatant, Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships and Halifax Class Frigate Repair Contracts. Utilizing GEODIS proprietary IT systems, ISI will achieve total asset visibility throughout its supply chain.

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (‘KONGSBERG’) has been awarded a contract from the Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS) on behalf of the Norwegian government to provide satellite maritime surveillance data to cover Norwegian Areas of Interest. The contract covers four years of service from 2025, when the satellites will be launched and operational. The contract value is undisclosed.

Austria's Ministry of Defence signed the contract with Defenture for the delivery of a batch of GRF (Ground force) vehicles. With this order, the Bundesministerium für Landesverteidigung (BMLV) chooses a special Military Of The Shelf (MOTS) light tactical and air transportable mobile platform for their Special Operations Forces (Jagdkommando) to replace the PUCH G 290/LP Sandviper.

Entitled ‘Our North, Strong and Free: A Renewed Vision for Canada’s Defence’ — a nod to DND’s 2017 ‘Strong, Secure, Engaged’ policy that it updates — the DPU promises additional DND funding to the tune of $8.1 billion over the next five years and $73 billion over the next 20 years.

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and the Minister of National Defence, Bill Blair, released Our North, Strong and Free: A Renewed Vision for Canada's Defence and announced a new overall investment of $8.1 billion over five years and $73 billion over 20 years in defence spending to be included in the upcoming Budget 2024. Canada's defence spending to GDP ratio is expected to rise to 1.76 per cent by 2029-30, a major step toward reaching the NATO commitment of 2 per cent.

The Government of Greece signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) making official its intent to procure 35 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters built by Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, via U.S. government Foreign Military Sale. In addition to the aircraft, the procurement also includes personnel training and training equipment to ensure the helicopters’ smooth integration into the Hellenic Army.

Minister Blair thanks Lieutenant-Colonel Louis-Vincent d’Auteuil, Deputy Chief Military Judge, for his work acting as interim Chief Military Judge since March 2020.
